Botox is a protein that is used to temporarily prevent muscle contractions in the small muscles of the face to help with wrinkles.
Cosmetic Botox is used to treat various dynamic wrinkles including frown lines, forehead lines, smile lines adjacent to the eyes, bunny lines on the side of the nose and smoker's lines around the mouth. It can also be used for a gummy smile, orange peel chin, masseter injection for facial slimming, down going corners of the mouth, neck bands and for lifting the eye brows.
The effects of Botox start as early as 2 days and continue to improve up to 30 days after injection. The recommended timing of Botox is every 90-120 days.
The Botox is injected with tiny insulin needles that are relatively painless but local aesthetic and ice can be used before injections if you are concerned.
The most common side effects are mild bruising and mild discomfort from the injection. Rarer side effects due to migration of the Botox and it's effects on the adjacent muscles include a brow droop, eyelid droop or and uneven smile depending on which areas are injected.
There are very few people who should not get Botox injections, these include pregnant woman and people with neuromuscular diseases.
